Philippi’s company name was taken from its owner Jan Philippi, whose ability to see the beauty in things and transform them into art established a unique mark and style for phiippi’s products. The Company stands out for its passion, precision and artistry and these are clearly revealed on its products which are functional, stylish, unique and timeless.
The owner began as an export merchant in Hamburg and after a long-lasting working experience and driven by his love for quality products and design he decided to establish his own business.
In 1992, Jan Philippi opened two retail stores in Hamburg, stocking them both with design pieces that where correlated with his aspiration of being distinctive, clear and modern. With fresh ideas and concepts collected during his journeys and an unmistakable taste for hi-end design, he managed to make his vision for design products into reality and soon enough he ventured to step from retail to wholesale.
As the company’s creative mind, Jan Philippi has been inspiring his designers since then. With extreme precision and great attention to detail, he works closely with his team, from the drafting stage right up to the moment that the product is market-ready. Since today, the Jan supports young talents and gives great importance for cooperation with creative professionals and manufacturers. Jan Philippi personally and intensively follows through the entire designing process, and attends to each and every customer believing that philanthropy is a fundamental company principle.
The small, northern German start-up company has evolved to an internationally renowned brand with approximately 500 products, employing several staff members and a lot more representives abroad. Furniture and stationary stores, stores with household goods, gift shops, and famous department stores such as the KaDeWe in Berlin, all successfully sell the products designed by PHILIPPI. In addition, Philippi’s products are also available in more than 90 countries, including France, Japan, Columbia, Dubai, Africa, and the USA, Moscow and Chile.
