Nauris Kalinauskas
Lithuanian designer Nauris Kalinauskas studied architecture and graduated Vilnius Technical University and Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1996. He began his career in advertising but soon he turned to furniture design – he developed an interest in technological processes and started to experiment with new materials. In 2000 he founded the design studio Contraforma. He holds the position of Art Director.
He has always been interested in the simplicity and beauty of geometric forms. He finds inspiration in working with sheet materials by taking a 2 dimensional material and turning it into a 3D product.
His works stands out not only for utility, function and aesthetics but also for the creative use of non-traditional materials for furniture design. During his life he has received numerous awards including the Red Dot Award.
“When you block out the trivial elements of your environment and try to look at things from a different point of view, then you get that amazing feeling of creativity, the sense of a desire to crystallize your thoughts into a physical form“ - Nauris Kalinauskas.
