Dressed Round Tray 35cm (Stainless Steel) - Alessi

This round tray is part of the “Dressed” collection by Alessi, designed by Marcel Wanders, one of those rare designers who has actually been able to innovate using decoration.

The name of the series itself, Dressed, highlights the notion that decoration should be designed, like a beautiful dress, to bring out the contents, without being overpowering.

This round tray is made of 18/10 deep drawn stainless steel and features a discreet relief decoration that reinterprets French baroque style. The relief decor was produced with an innovative rolling technology that gives its objects an irresistible three-dimensionality.

Traditionally, the rules would require that decoration be applied in the most important and most visible areas of the object. Wanders, on the other hand, applies it to secluded areas, a little out of sight, sometimes even in areas that aren’t normally visible at all, so much so that we could call it a sort of introverted decoration.

In this way, even though he uses a language of signs that is very rich and complex, a bit flowery, a little baroque, Wanders manages to maintain a certain level of overall elegance and lightness.
