Magis Spun Chair (Anthracite Grey) is a truly unique piece of furniture. Thomas Heatherwick introduced a surprising twist on conventional furniture design: a functional chair formed from a single profile rotated through 360 degrees.
Spun transforms the domestic seat into a beautifully rendered spinning object.
The appeal was to create a design using rotational symmetry while asking the simple question “can a functional chair become a playful object”? Spun displays Heatherwick's flair for challenging rules and teasingly plays with the notion of a static piece of a sculpture becoming a playful piece of furniture.
When upright Spun is a sculptural vessel and it is only when it is lent on its side that the playful possibilities of its form come to light. Spun allows the sitter to swivel in a circular rocking motion, including being able to rotate in a complete circle.
Bobbing, rocking or simply relaxing, is not a problem with Spun!
Once seated, Spun becomes a rocking adventure: it turns, rocks back and forth if you want or remains a quiet armchair for relaxing. Fine lines on the outside increase the dynamic circular appearance.
Spun is made from polyethylene. Owing to this very robust material, this circular armchair is equally suitable for indoor and outdoor usage. A rubber coating under the chair also protects the ground from the spinning motion of this unique chair.
