Asymmetrical, utterly original and modern, the Mondrian sideboard is constructed in Rio Tinto, Portugal by Boca Do Lobo and it is strictly handmade.
The squared design is inspired by the paintings of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, hence the name. Art becomes a sideboard and Mondrian is really a very special furniture piece. This stunning sideboard is composed of a collection of styles and typologies of drawers. The distinctive style of Mondrian is evident in the furniture design, but the fans of the famous Dutch will notice that it is missing the colorful elements which characterize his paintings.
The color game in the Mondrian sideboard has been substituted by a variety of different materials which are united in order to create an asymmetrical patchwork of drawers. A grid of vertical and horizontal lines, reminiscent of Piet Mondrian, forms square and rectangular drawers in varying sizes. The Mondrian sideboard combines modern design elements, such as the glass frame with classic design elements, such as the retro handcrafted brass handles in a unique way.
The Mondrian sideboard belongs to the “limited edition” series of Boca Do Lobo and it is more art than utilitarian furniture. Undoubtedly, it constitutes a unique and collectable object which is different from anything else, and exudes a sense of both “experimental design” and luxury.
