The Duo Seat + Lamp by designer duo Muller Van Severen is a double lounge seat inspired by minimal art pieces, which nevertheless offers maximal function.
The philosophy of the design was to create a statement piece that encourages interaction between two persons. Two people can seat in either an upright or a reclining seating position, in a relaxed setup that is encouraging conversation and interaction. The final addition is the built-in lamp that adds atmosphere and diversity to this already distinctive piece of furniture.
At first glance the Duo Seat + Lamp looks unassuming however upon further observation once will notice that is made from an interesting and well thought after composition of materials. The frame is steel with a gloss red painted finish with slung seats in a thick natural hide, which will attain a patina and darken over time. The integrated revolving lamp has brass fittings and a white opaline glass shade. The combination of the thin linear frame with the thin seats creates a minimalist blend that makes the piece look light and ethereal, despite its considerable size.
Founded in 2011, Muller Van Severen is the moniker of Belgian husband-and-wife team Hannes Van Severen and Fien Muller. The pair describes their minimalist, material-driven designs as “landscapes for living”.
