The minimalist, yet stunning Gelly glass displays were designed in 1999 by Philippe Starck for Italian FIAM Italia and constitute a distinctive sample of the design philosophy of the renowned French Designer.
Famed Italian Glass Maker Fiam Italia has collaborated with Phillipe Starck numerous times, producing together a number of spectacular design classics. The Gelly glass displays are characterized by a purity of form that exudes a moderate luxury, while maintaining a minimalistic and modern look. At the same time, their light geometric shape shows their content in the best possible way. The design is evocative of an Edwardian bedside table, with delicate legs supporting a “strict” geometric cubical structure. Much like many of Starck’s famous design such as the Victoria chair and the Louis chair, this design refers back to an earlier era, interpreted in a modern way.
The series includes three different styles: two large models with four display sections, which are more like classic display units, and one smaller top loading version with a single display box. The single unit can also be used as an auxiliary table or bedside table, with one sculpture other artwork inside it.
Besides the classic transparent glass, it is also available in colored glass in orange, green or blue, with the addition of color to give a more cheerful and pop character. The Gelly glass displays are undoubtedly a timeless piece of modern design. They are made of 10mm safety glass the four elegant legs are aluminum.
