MIITO is an exciting re-imagination of the traditional electric kettle, substantially more efficient at heating water, easier to clean, easier to store and easier to use.
A sleek design founded on simplicity, MIITO was created by the award-winning design team of Nils Chudy and Jasmina Grase. Both recent graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven. According to its creators, MIITO is reinventing the traditional kettle, bringing a new sustainable alternative to heating liquids.
The core idea behind the design is that MIITO is a practical solution that only heats as much water as needed in any vessel. For example you want a cup of tea, why boil 0,5 liter of water just so you can prepare a cup of tea? Needless to say that you are wasting energy and valuable resources.
Everyday we do not realize how much we overfill our traditional kettles, leading to water and energy waste just in making a cup of tea. Looking at the broader picture, we notice more the impact this everyday waste really has. Sustainability provocateur and designer Leyla Acaroglu summed it up best during her TED Talk: “One day of extra energy use [from overfilling electric kettles in the UK] is enough to light all the streetlights in London for a night.”
The system consists of an induction base and a stainless steel rod. In order to make a cup of tea, simply place the cup filled with water on the induction base and put the rod directly into the cup. MIITO will start immediately heating the rod inside the water until you have a nice hot cup of tea.
In addition, MIITO is extremely versatile as compared to an electric kettle, since works with unlimited type of different vessels (even with non-ferrous vessels). Plus with other liquids too, such as milk or soup. So it will even heat milk for hot chocolate and warm a cold cup of coffee. And to top it off it is a breeze to clean the MIITO. Cleaning an electric kettle can be a bit of a challenge, the heating elements accumulate limescale that are difficult to remove by scrubbing alone, hence the de-scaling process takes some time. Solves that problem immediately, just wash the metal rod after use, and done, it will never accumulate limescale.
Smart, beautifully designed and environmentally friendly the MIITO Energy Efficient Electric Kettle is reinventing the traditional kettle, bringing a new sustainable alternative to heating liquids.
MIITO was met with an overwhelming positive response from a league of new supporters and went on to be nominated for and win several prestigious awards, including the James Dyson Award. Inspired by this experience, the designers, Chudy and Grase, created their own design studio right after graduation and set out to realize MIITO as a sustainable product that could be brought into every home. MIITO is currently on exhibit at the Design Museum in London, where it has been nominated for the Designs of the Year 2015 award.
The innovative MIITO Energy Efficient Electric Kettle is not available for sale right now, but after what appears to be a very successful Kickstarter campaign, the first production batch will start shipping soon.
